NEET 2027 Deleted Chapters: The Complete List of What NOT to Study

Before you read: The NMC rationalised the NEET syllabus in 2023–24. That revised syllabus was confirmed unchanged for NEET 2026 (official NMC notification, December 22, 2025) and remains the valid reference for NEET 2027. No separate NEET 2027 syllabus document has been released — and none is expected. Every deletion listed in this blog is official, confirmed, and applies to your preparation right now.


Why this blog exists — and why it matters more than you think

Open any older NEET preparation book, any set of coaching notes from two or three years ago, or any YouTube playlist created before 2024, and you will find content on chapters that are no longer part of the NEET syllabus at all.

Students preparing from these materials are spending weeks — sometimes months — on chapters that will not appear in NEET 2027 under any circumstances. Not a single mark. Not a single question. Completely outside the exam.

This is not a small problem. The NMC rationalisation of 2023–24 removed 18 full chapters and dozens of specific topics from the NEET syllabus, reducing the total chapter count from 97 to 79. That is a reduction of nearly 20 percent of the syllabus. Students who do not know exactly which chapters were removed are either preparing content that cannot help them or carrying the anxiety of a syllabus that is larger than it actually is.

Both of these are serious preparation problems. Both are entirely avoidable.

This blog gives you the complete, accurate, NMC-official list of every deleted chapter and topic across Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. Read it once. Remove those chapters from your preparation map. And direct every hour you were going to spend on them toward the 79 chapters that will actually appear in your exam.


Part 1: Understanding why the syllabus was reduced

Before going into the specific deletions, it is worth understanding why they happened — because understanding the reasoning helps you trust the list and prepare with greater clarity.

The NCERT rationalisation of 2023–24

NEET is based entirely on NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks. When NCERT revised its textbooks in 2023–24 — removing chapters it considered repetitive, outdated, or beyond the appropriate difficulty level for Class 11 and 12 — the NMC updated the NEET syllabus to match. Every chapter deleted from the revised NCERT edition was removed from NEET.

This means the deletions are not arbitrary. They reflect a deliberate decision by NCERT to remove content that did not add conceptual value at the Class 11–12 level. The chapters that remain are the ones NCERT and NMC consider foundational — the concepts that a medical professional needs to understand at the entry level.

What the reduction means for your preparation

The reduction from 97 to 79 chapters is significant for two reasons.

First, the obvious one: there is less to study. If you are preparing from the updated syllabus, you have already saved yourself 18 chapters of preparation time. That is a meaningful reduction in the total volume of content you need to master.

Second, the less obvious one: the chapters that remain carry more weight per chapter. With fewer chapters in the paper, the questions are more concentrated. High-weightage chapters — Human Physiology, Genetics and Evolution, Ecology, Electrostatics, Optics, Organic Chemistry — now represent an even larger share of the 180-question paper than they did before. Mastering each remaining chapter thoroughly matters more than ever.

The online confusion problem

A significant amount of content online — blogs, videos, notes, PDF guides — still references the old 97-chapter syllabus. Some of it was created before the rationalisation. Some of it has been updated partially but not completely. Some of it is simply inaccurate.

This creates a specific risk for NEET 2027 students: finding preparation resources that list chapters you do not need to prepare, or that do not clearly flag which content has been removed. The only reliable reference is the official NMC syllabus document, confirmed unchanged for 2026 and carrying forward into 2027.

Every deletion in this blog has been verified against that official source. Nothing here is speculative or based on rumour.


Part 2: NEET 2027 deleted chapters — Biology

Biology is the most important subject in NEET, carrying 360 marks across 90 questions. It is also the subject where the deleted chapter list is most consequential, because Biology has the highest density of specific factual content — and preparing deleted Biology chapters wastes the kind of memorisation effort that is most expensive to recover.

The complete list of deleted Biology chapters

The following chapters have been fully removed from the NEET syllabus as part of the 2023–24 NMC rationalisation. They will not appear in NEET 2027 under any circumstances.


Class 11 Biology — Deleted chapters:

1. Transport in Plants

This chapter covered the mechanisms by which plants absorb and transport water, minerals, and organic compounds — including osmosis, plasmolysis, active and passive transport, long-distance transport, transpiration, and the pressure-flow hypothesis for phloem transport.

The entire chapter has been removed. Do not prepare it. Questions on water potential, osmotic pressure, and transpiration pull will not appear in NEET 2027.

2. Mineral Nutrition

This chapter covered essential mineral elements, their functions, and deficiency symptoms. It also covered the nitrogen cycle, biological nitrogen fixation, and the role of microbes in nitrogen availability.

The entire chapter has been removed. Nitrogen fixation, mineral element classification, and deficiency symptoms are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

3. Digestion and Absorption

This chapter covered the human digestive system — the alimentary canal, associated glands, the process of digestion, absorption, and assimilation of nutrients, and common digestive disorders.

This is the deletion that surprises most students the most. Digestion and Absorption was one of the most-asked chapters in older NEET papers. It has been fully removed from the current syllabus. Do not prepare the process of digestion, the function of digestive enzymes, or the structure of the alimentary canal for NEET 2027.


Class 12 Biology — Deleted chapters:

4. Reproduction in Organisms

This chapter covered the basics of reproduction — types of asexual reproduction, modes of sexual reproduction, and the general concepts of reproductive cycles across different organisms.

The entire chapter has been removed. Asexual reproduction methods (binary fission, budding, fragmentation, vegetative propagation) and the general reproductive cycle framework are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus. Note that Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants and Human Reproduction remain — only this introductory overview chapter has been removed.

5. Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production

This chapter covered animal husbandry, plant breeding, single cell protein, and tissue culture as strategies for improving food production.

The entire chapter has been removed. Animal husbandry practices, plant breeding methods, mutation breeding, and single cell protein production are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

6. Environmental Issues

This chapter covered air, water, and soil pollution — their causes, effects, and remediation. It also covered greenhouse effect, ozone depletion, and deforestation.

The entire chapter has been removed. Air pollution, water pollution, global warming, ozone layer depletion, and deforestation are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus. Note that Biodiversity and Conservation remains — only Environmental Issues specifically has been removed.


What the Biology deletions mean for your preparation

Six full chapters removed from Biology is significant. Here is how to think about it practically.

The three Class 11 deletions — Transport in Plants, Mineral Nutrition, and Digestion and Absorption — remove content that was previously among the most memorisation-intensive in the syllabus. Transport in Plants required detailed knowledge of osmotic mechanisms. Mineral Nutrition required memorising specific elements, their functions, and deficiency symptoms. Digestion and Absorption required detailed knowledge of enzyme sequences, absorption sites, and digestive disorders. All of that preparation effort is now zero-return.

The three Class 12 deletions remove content that was more factual than conceptual — reproductive cycle overviews, food production strategies, and environmental pollution details. Their removal reinforces the direction of the revised syllabus: toward conceptual depth over factual breadth.

The Biology chapters that remain are the ones that have always carried the most weight: Human Physiology, Genetics and Evolution, Molecular Biology, Ecology, Biotechnology, Reproduction (the two specific chapters, not the overview). These deserve even more of your attention now that six chapters have been removed and the marks are more concentrated.


Part 3: NEET 2027 deleted chapters — Chemistry

Chemistry carries 180 marks across 45 questions. The deletions here are the most numerous — nine full chapters removed — and they significantly change the structure of what Chemistry preparation looks like for NEET 2027.

Class 11 Chemistry — Deleted chapters:

1. States of Matter

This chapter covered the three states of matter, gas laws (Boyle's law, Charles's law, Gay-Lussac's law, Avogadro's law), the ideal gas equation, kinetic molecular theory, and the behaviour of real gases.

The entire chapter has been removed. Gas laws, ideal gas equation, kinetic theory of gases, and van der Waals equation are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

2. Hydrogen

This chapter covered the position of hydrogen in the periodic table, its isotopes, preparation and properties of hydrogen, hydrides, water, hydrogen peroxide, and heavy water.

The entire chapter has been removed. Properties of hydrogen peroxide, heavy water, and hydrides are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

3. s-Block Elements (Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metals)

This chapter covered Group 1 (alkali metals) and Group 2 (alkaline earth metals) — their electronic configuration, occurrence, anomalous properties of lithium, trends in properties, important compounds (sodium chloride, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate, biological importance of calcium and magnesium, etc.).

The entire chapter has been removed. Properties of sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium compounds — including all the industrial preparations and biological importance content — are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

4. Thermodynamics (Class 11 Chemistry)

This chapter covered system and surroundings, types of systems, intensive and extensive properties, state functions, first law of thermodynamics, enthalpy, heat capacity, Hess's law, bond enthalpies, spontaneity, entropy, and Gibbs free energy.

The entire chapter has been removed from Chemistry. Note that Thermodynamics remains in Physics — only the Chemistry version of this chapter has been removed.

5. Environmental Chemistry

This chapter covered environmental pollution — atmospheric pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, industrial waste, strategies for controlling environmental pollution, and green chemistry.

The entire chapter has been removed. Green chemistry, atmospheric pollution chemistry, water pollution chemical causes, and soil pollution are not part of the NEET 2027 Chemistry syllabus.


Class 12 Chemistry — Deleted chapters:

6. Solid State

This chapter covered classification of solids, crystal lattices, unit cells, packing efficiency, voids, defects in solids, electrical and magnetic properties of solids.

The entire chapter has been removed. Crystal lattice calculations, unit cell problems, packing efficiency, and point defects are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

7. Surface Chemistry

This chapter covered adsorption, catalysis, colloids (types, preparation, and properties), emulsions, and industrial applications of colloids.

The entire chapter has been removed. Adsorption isotherms, colloid preparation, Tyndall effect, Brownian motion, and emulsification chemistry are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

8. General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements (Metallurgy)

This chapter covered the principles and methods of extraction of metals — concentration of ores, thermodynamic and electrochemical principles of metallurgy, refining methods, and extraction of specific metals (aluminium, copper, zinc, iron).

The entire chapter has been removed. Ore beneficiation, Hall-Heroult process, thermite process, Ellingham diagrams, and metal refining methods are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

9. Polymers

This chapter covered classification of polymers, types of polymerisation reactions, molecular mass of polymers, biodegradability, and commercially important polymers (polyethylene, nylon, bakelite, rubber, etc.).

The entire chapter has been removed. Addition and condensation polymerisation, commercial polymer properties, biodegradable polymers, and rubber vulcanisation are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.

10. Chemistry in Everyday Life

This chapter covered chemicals in medicines (analgesics, tranquilisers, antiseptics, disinfectants, antihistamines, antacids, antimicrobials), chemicals in food, and cleansing agents (soaps and detergents).

The entire chapter has been removed. Drug classifications, drug-receptor interactions, types of medicines, soaps and detergents chemistry, and food additives are not part of the NEET 2027 syllabus.


What the Chemistry deletions mean for your preparation

Ten chapters removed from Chemistry is a dramatic reduction. It changes Chemistry from a three-part subject with roughly equal depth across Physical, Inorganic, and Organic into a more focused exam that concentrates almost entirely on core concepts.

The deleted chapters skew heavily toward descriptive, memory-intensive content. States of Matter (gas law derivations), s-Block Elements (lists of compounds and properties), Thermodynamics (enthalpy calculations), Environmental Chemistry (pollution types and remediation), Solid State (crystal geometry calculations), Surface Chemistry (colloid descriptions), Metallurgy (extraction process descriptions), Polymers (commercial polymer lists), and Chemistry in Everyday Life (drug and medicine classifications) — these were among the most memorisation-heavy chapters in the old Chemistry syllabus.

Their removal does not make Chemistry easier in terms of difficulty. It makes it more conceptually demanding. The chapters that remain require genuine understanding — Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Coordination Compounds, Organic reaction mechanisms, and the p-Block and d-Block element chemistry. You cannot rely on memorising lists. You need to understand how and why.

The Chemistry chapters that remain and deserve concentrated preparation:

Physical Chemistry (remaining): Some Basic Concepts and Stoichiometry, Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, Equilibrium (ionic and chemical), Redox Reactions, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics.

Inorganic Chemistry (remaining): Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Some p-Block Elements (Class 11 — Groups 13 and 14), p-Block Elements (Class 12 — Groups 15, 16, 17, 18), d and f Block Elements, Coordination Compounds.

Organic Chemistry (remaining): Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, Biomolecules.


Class 12 Physics — Deleted chapters:

1. Communication Systems

This chapter covered elements of communication systems, bandwidth of signals, bandwidth of transmission media, propagation of electromagnetic waves, sky wave and space wave propagation, modulation (amplitude modulation), production and detection of amplitude modulated waves.

The entire chapter has been removed. Modulation, bandwidth, sky wave propagation, amplitude modulation, and communication system components are not part of the NEET 2027 Physics syllabus.

Deleted topics within retained Physics chapters

Beyond the full chapter removal, several specific topics within chapters that are still part of the syllabus have been removed. These are important to know because they affect how deeply you prepare each remaining chapter.

From Kinematics: Scalar and vector quantities (introductory treatment), equality of vectors, elementary concepts of differentiation and integration as they appear in the Kinematics introduction, position and displacement vectors as standalone topics. The core kinematics — equations of motion, projectile motion, relative velocity — remains fully in scope.

From Laws of Motion: Lubrication (as an application of friction), equilibrium of concurrent forces as a standalone section. Newton's laws, friction, circular motion, and free body diagram analysis remain fully in scope.

From Properties of Bulk Matter: Reynolds number, Poisson's ratio, surface energy derivations, Newton's law of cooling, shear modulus applications. Elasticity (Young's modulus), Bernoulli's theorem, surface tension (the concept and applications), and viscosity (Stokes' law) remain in scope.

From Rotational Motion: Centre of mass of a uniform rod specifically, momentum conservation as a standalone section. Moment of inertia, torque, angular momentum conservation, and rolling motion remain fully in scope.

From Current Electricity: Carbon resistors and colour coding, potentiometer principle for internal resistance measurement as a specific application. Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's laws, Wheatstone bridge, and potentiometer as a device remain in scope.

From Electronic Devices: Junction transistor action, transistor as an oscillator, energy band diagrams. p-n junction diode, rectifier, Zener diode, and logic gates remain in scope.

From Atoms and Nuclei: Radioactivity decay law derivations as standalone content, isotopes as a standalone topic. Bohr model, energy levels, binding energy, nuclear reactions, and half-life remain in scope.

From Electrostatics: Van de Graaff generator, free and bound charges as standalone topics. Coulomb's law, Gauss's law, electric potential, capacitors, and dielectrics remain fully in scope.

From Optics: Optical instruments (microscope, telescope) as a specific section, eye defects as a standalone topic. Ray optics (reflection, refraction, lenses, mirrors, prism, total internal reflection), wave optics (interference, diffraction, polarisation) remain fully in scope.

From Oscillations and Waves: Doppler effect, resonance in the context of waves. Simple harmonic motion, spring systems, wave equations, and standing waves remain in scope.


What the Physics deletions mean for your preparation

The removal of Communication Systems eliminates one of the more straightforward scoring chapters from the old syllabus — a chapter many students found relatively easy to prepare because it was descriptive rather than numerical. Its removal means one less easy chapter and a paper slightly more concentrated in the harder conceptual and numerical chapters.

The topic-level deletions within retained chapters are mostly the removal of introductory or descriptive subsections. They do not change the core of any chapter. Kinematics is still Kinematics. Laws of Motion is still Laws of Motion. The removed topics were peripheral additions — the main conceptual and problem-solving content of every Physics chapter remains intact.

The practical implication: when you are preparing a Physics chapter, you do not need to skip the chapter. You need to skip specific sections. Read the current NMC syllabus document alongside your NCERT textbook and confirm which sections of each chapter are listed. Any section not explicitly in the syllabus is not your preparation priority.


Part 5: The three types of preparation mistakes the deleted chapters cause

Understanding which chapters are deleted is not enough. You also need to understand the three ways that the deleted chapter problem actually damages preparation — because awareness of the mistake is different from the mistake being impossible.

Mistake 1: Using old notes or old reference books

This is the most common cause of studying deleted content. A student borrows notes from a senior, uses a reference book from 2022 or 2023, or downloads a PDF from a coaching institute that has not updated its materials. The notes cover the old 97-chapter syllabus. The student follows the notes without checking against the current NMC syllabus.

The fix: before using any notes, book, or resource, cross-check the chapter list against the current official syllabus. If a chapter in your notes does not appear in the 79-chapter official list, skip it entirely.

Mistake 2: Studying deleted topics within retained chapters

This is subtler and more dangerous than studying fully deleted chapters, because it is harder to notice. A student preparing Kinematics from an old textbook includes the introductory treatment of differentiation and integration that has been removed. A student preparing Current Electricity memorises carbon resistor colour codes that are no longer in scope.

These are not large time investments individually — but across 79 chapters, the accumulation of small off-syllabus topics can represent weeks of preparation time directed at content that has zero exam return.

The fix: for every chapter, read the NMC syllabus document's topic list for that chapter specifically, not just the chapter title. Prepare only the topics explicitly listed.

Mistake 3: The anxiety of an overcounted syllabus

Some students have not prepared the deleted chapters but also do not know they have been deleted. They carry the mental weight of a 97-chapter syllabus when the actual target is 79 chapters. They feel perpetually behind because their sense of how much is left to do is inflated by nearly 20 percent.

This anxiety is real and it has a practical cost. It influences daily decisions — making students feel they cannot afford to revise chapters they have already studied because there is too much new content left. It makes thorough revision of completed chapters feel like a luxury they cannot afford.

The fix is simply to know the correct number. 79 chapters. Not 97. The gap between those two numbers is 18 chapters you do not need to prepare, and the mental space that creating that gap frees up is genuine preparation capacity.


Part 6: How to clean your preparation map right now

If you are currently using a chapter tracker, a study schedule, or any kind of preparation map — here is exactly what to do today.

Go through your tracker chapter by chapter. For every chapter that appears in the deleted list above, remove it from your active preparation schedule. If you have already spent time preparing those chapters, that time is not recoverable, but the time you would have spent on revision of those chapters can now be redirected.

For Biology, remove: Transport in Plants, Mineral Nutrition, Digestion and Absorption, Reproduction in Organisms, Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production, Environmental Issues.

For Chemistry, remove: States of Matter, Hydrogen, s-Block Elements, Thermodynamics (Class 11 Chemistry only), Environmental Chemistry, Solid State, Surface Chemistry, General Principles of Isolation of Elements, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life.

For Physics, remove: Communication Systems. Then review each retained Physics chapter's topic list against the NMC syllabus and remove any subtopics that are no longer listed.

After cleaning, your preparation map should show exactly 79 chapters. Every hour you now spend is directed at content that will actually appear in NEET 2027.


Part 7: The chapters that matter most now — redirecting your freed time

Knowing what not to study is only half the value of this blog. The other half is knowing where to direct the preparation time you have freed.

The chapters that carry the most marks in NEET 2027 — based on consistent question frequency across recent years — are the ones that deserve the hours you have recovered from deleted chapter preparation.

Biology: highest priority remaining chapters

Human Physiology chapters (Breathing and Exchange of Gases, Body Fluids and Circulation, Excretory Products, Neural Control and Coordination, Chemical Coordination and Integration) collectively contribute 15 to 20 questions annually. Every numerical value, every diagram, every mechanism in these chapters should be mastered to the level where you can reproduce them from memory without prompting.

Genetics and Evolution (Principles of Inheritance and Variation, Molecular Basis of Inheritance, Evolution) contribute 10 to 14 questions annually. Mendelian genetics, molecular mechanisms of gene expression, lac operon, and evolution theories are among the most consistently tested content in the entire paper.

Ecology (Organisms and Populations, Ecosystem, Biodiversity and Conservation) contributes 8 to 12 questions. These chapters are often underestimated because they feel descriptive — but they reward thorough NCERT preparation with reliable, predictable marks.

Reproduction (Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants, Human Reproduction, Reproductive Health) contributes 8 to 10 questions. Human Reproduction in particular has a high density of specific facts that appear year after year.

Biotechnology (Principles and Processes, Applications) contributes 6 to 8 questions. The tools of recombinant DNA technology and the specific applications (Bt crops, gene therapy, ELISA) are high-yield content.

Chemistry: highest priority remaining chapters

Equilibrium is the single most important Physical Chemistry chapter in the remaining syllabus. It underpins much of Electrochemistry and Chemical Kinetics as well. Buffer solutions, solubility products, Le Chatelier's principle, and the relationship between Kp and Kc are tested every year.

Coordination Compounds contributes 3 to 4 questions consistently. IUPAC nomenclature, isomerism, VBT, CFT, and magnetic properties are all testable content that rewards systematic preparation.

p-Block Elements (Class 12) and d-Block Elements contribute 4 to 6 questions across Groups 15 through 18 and the transition metals. These chapters reward NCERT-level detail — specific reactions, oxidation states, and anomalous behaviour are directly tested.

Organic Chemistry (Aldehydes, Ketones, and Carboxylic Acids; Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen; Haloalkanes) contributes 6 to 8 questions. Mechanism understanding is the key — students who understand why reactions happen can answer unfamiliar variations confidently.

Physics: highest priority remaining chapters

Optics (both ray and wave) contributes 4 to 5 questions and is one of the highest-return chapters for students who master it thoroughly — the concepts are self-contained and the question types are predictable.

Modern Physics (Dual Nature, Atoms, Nuclei) contributes 4 to 5 questions consistently. Photoelectric effect calculations, Bohr model energy levels, binding energy per nucleon, and radioactive decay problems appear every year.

Electrostatics and Current Electricity together contribute 5 to 7 questions. Gauss's law applications, capacitor problems, Kirchhoff's laws, and Wheatstone bridge are the core testable content.

Laws of Motion and Work-Energy-Power contribute 3 to 4 questions. Free body diagram problems, friction, and energy conservation are the primary question types.


Part 8: Keeping your syllabus accurate going forward

One thing worth being explicit about: the NEET syllabus can change. The NMC has the authority to revise it, and while no changes have been announced for 2027, that could theoretically change.

The practical approach is to check the official NMC website (nmc.org.in) and NTA NEET portal (neet.nta.nic.in) once every three months for any syllabus notification. This takes five minutes and ensures you are always preparing from the correct document. Do not rely on coaching institute updates or online blogs — including this one — as your primary source for syllabus news. Go directly to the official source.

If a change is announced, update your preparation map immediately. The principle of preparing only what is in the current syllabus — and not one chapter more — is the principle that should guide your preparation regardless of what changes are made.


Conclusion: Clarity is preparation

Eighteen chapters removed. Dozens of topics removed within retained chapters. A syllabus that is nearly 20 percent smaller than what many students believe they are preparing.

Every student who knows this information precisely has a concrete preparation advantage over every student who does not. Not because they are studying harder. Because they are studying the right thing.

NEET 2027 will not give you a single mark for knowing the gas laws from States of Matter. It will not give you a single mark for knowing the extraction process for aluminium from Metallurgy. It will not give you a single mark for knowing the types of soaps and detergents from Chemistry in Everyday Life. Those chapters are gone. That content is zero-return.

What it will give you marks for is the 79 chapters that remain — and specifically the depth to which you know the high-weightage chapters within those 79. Every hour you redirect from deleted chapter preparation into deep revision of Human Physiology, Genetics, Coordination Compounds, Optics, and Organic Chemistry mechanisms is an hour that will appear in your score.
